Mario Cau is an award-winning Brazilian comic book author: writer, illustrator and teacher in love with the spectacular language of the Sequential Arts. Active in the Brazilian comics scene since the early 2000's, he has been published and self-published in dozens of titles, from his own solo work to group anthologies.

Dedicated with passion to the production of comic books professionally since the early 2000s, he found in this powerful language, which influenced his childhood and adolescence, a form of expression and communication: his voice, in lines, letters, colors and narrative. For some of his works, he has won (or been nominated for) the most important awards in Brazilian pop culture and literature: HQMIX, Jabuti and Angelo Agostini.

Author of the series "Pieces", with the titles “Parte de Mim” (Independent, 2021) and “Partes do Todo” (Jupati Books, 2016) and of the graphic novel "Morphine" (independent, 2014). Co-author of the acclaimed series “Monstruário”, with Lucas Oda; of the webcomic "Terapia" ( www.tapas.io/series/terapia from 2011 to 2022), with Rob Gordon and Marina Kurcis, and of the adaptation of “Dom Casmurro” (Devir, 2012), with a script by Felipe Greco. In the US, he published the solo titles in English, “Vincent in pieces” (Independent, 2023), “Teardrop” (Independent, 2024) and “Absence” (Independent, 2025) and was a finalist in the short comics competition of the anthology “Negative Space” in the 2023 and 2024 editions and in the 1-Page Comics competition of the IC3 event in 2025.

He has participated in several group anthologies, such as “Front”, “Café Espacial”, “Quadrinhópole”, “Aqui e Acolá”, “Feitiço da Vila” and “Atirei o Pau no Gato”. In partnership with Larissa Palmieri, Fabi Marques and Daniel Esteves, he produced the adaptation of “Anne de Green Gables” (Principis, 2021). He also edited and illustrated his grandmother's memoir, “Paschoa – Memories of my childhood” (Independente, 2018). He was the final artist for “Duodec”, “Noite de Spoiler” (Universo Guará, 2020 and 2021) and “Residiuum - Tales of Coral” (Iron Studios, 2024-25).

A constant presence at Brazilian comic book events and scene, he also works as an illustrator (editorial, educational and advertising). He produces videos for his YouTube channel, with the aim of bringing reflections, classes, reviews, essays and tutorials to more people. As a teacher, he taught at Pandora Escola de Arte, in Campinas, for 17 years, helping to train several artists who now work professionally and also those who dedicate themselves to art as a hobby or therapy. He is currently a teacher at Inko, an online school and studio, and also offers mentoring in editorial, comic and creative projects.
