MORPHINE
Script and art by Mario Cau
Synopsis:
“Someday, there will be a cure for pain.”
- “Cure for pain”, by the band Morphine
The transition from adolescence to adulthood can be turbulent. Everyone has a story, their reasons, their path. Sometimes they cross paths, and sometimes they separate. Our choices always have consequences, and dealing with accumulated baggage, deciding what to take forward and what to leave behind is part of each person's maturation.
This is the story of a group of friends who, each for their own reason, end up together at the opening party of the newest nightclub in town, called Morphine. Meetings and partings mark a series of moments (from the café to the bar, from delirium to hangover, and back to the café) that put each of their personalities to the test.
Lennon, Bruno, Alex, Diana and Lara are involved in a series of typical twenty-something situations: loneliness, unrequited passions, harsh opinions, missed opportunities, good humor, depression, shyness, insecurity, and the difficulty in achieving a goal. And each one will try to find a way to soothe their personal pain, whatever it may be, however it may be.
Written and illustrated by Mario Cau (Terapia, Dom Casmurro, Pieces, NÓS), Morphine is a comic book about urban life and relationships between people (or the lack thereof), with doses of passion, music, dreams, distance and alcohol.
Morphine was nominated for the HQMIX Trophy in the "Independent one-shot publication" category.
